Alexander Isak might have scored as his side won 2-1 away from home against Tottenham Hotspur, but his weekend ended on a sour note.
The Swedish forward underwent successful surgery on Monday, the club announced via X, following an ankle injury that included a fibula fracture he sustained as he netted his second Premier League goal of the season.
Isak was caught by a challenge from Micky van de Ven while scoring, and was forced off in visible pain.
After undergoing scans on Sunday, the striker went into surgery with no timeframe for his return.
The injury could not come at a worse time for the Merseyside club. Star player Mohamed Salah is on international duty at the African Cup of Nations, while Cody Gakpo is sidelined with a muscle issue.
Arne Slot is expected to give further updates on the injury crisis on Tuesday when he speaks with media.
Liverpool take on Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday at Anfield.
