PWHL Vancouver is bringing in some veteran experience with the first draft pick in franchise history.
Holding the seventh-overall selection in Tuesday's PWHL Draft, Vancouver picked 35-year-old Finnish forward Michelle Karvinen.
Karvinen joins Vancouver from Frölunda HC Dam of the Swedish Women's Hockey League (SDHL), coming off a 2024-25 season in which she scored 21 goals and 35 points in 32 games.
The left-shot winger is a three-time Olympic medallist and an eight-time world champion medallist, having played with the Finnish National Team since 2009. Karvinen was named a world championship all-star in 2009, 2011 and 2019.
With Vancouver, Karvinen will join major forward additions Hannah Miller and Sarah Nurse for the franchise's inaugural season.
PWHL Seattle selected behind Vancouver in Tuesday's draft, and tabbed Jenna Buglioni, a forward out of Ohio State University, with the No. 8 pick and the first in its history as a franchise.
A random draw determined the order of selection between Seattle and Vancouver in the first round. They will alternate in each of the following rounds.
