For a second time this off-season, the Walter Cup has gone MIA.
This time, the PWHL's championship trophy failed to arrive at a Michigan event hosted by former Montreal Victoire forward Shiann Darkangelo, who announced the mishap on her social media.
"The Walter Cup did not arrive as expected yesterday, and unfortunately, it will not be at the Athleta event in Brighton today," Darkangelo wrote in an Instagram post. "I know many of you were excited to see the cup and I'm genuinely disappointed that it won't be there."
The PWHL has yet to comment on the Walter Cup's latest detour.
The Athletic's Devon Henderson reported on Saturday that while the Cup failed to reach it's intended destination, the league is aware of its whereabouts.
The Cup went missing earlier this off-season when it failed to arrive in Lethbridge, Alta. It was located a few days later.
The league did not specify at the time where it was found or how it went missing, only saying it got "lost in shipment."
Per Henderson, the PWHL used the same shipping company for this week's event as it did when the Cup first went missing two weeks ago.
The trophy issued to the winning team that is toured in the off-season is the so-called "keeper" cup, which is a replica of the original sterling silver Tiffany & Co-designed Walter Cup. That 35-pound trophy is permanently stored in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.
