The PWHL is poised to add another team on the west coast.
San Jose is expected to be granted an expansion franchise on Tuesday, Ian Kennedy of The Hockey News reported Friday.
The California city will join Las Vegas, Detroit and Hamilton as expansion teams next season, bringing the league to 12 teams.
Five are in Canada and seven are in the U.S.
The league, in its third year, started with six teams before jumping to eight this season with the addition of Seattle and Vancouver. The PWHL currently owns all its franchises.
San Jose is part of the Bay Area, which is the 10th biggest television market in the U.S. The PWHL team will play at SAP Center, home of the NHL's San Jose Sharks, according to Kennedy.
