QMJHL Roundup: Wildcats edge Mooseheads after wild comeback

Maxim Barbashev netted the game-winning goal 18:06 into the third period as the Moncton Wildcats defeated the Halifax Mooseheads 5-4 on Sunday.

Barbashev’s goal capped a run of five unanswered goals for Moncton (12-10-0-1) after going down 4-0 by 6:26 of the second period. 

Alex Mercier, with two goals, Vincent Labelle and Etienne Morin also scored for the Wildcats. Jacob Steinman made 26 saves.

Evan Boucher scored two goals while Zachary L’Heureux and Mathieu Cataford added one apiece for Halifax (14-7-2-1). Mathis Rousseau stopped 25-of-30 shots.

PHOENIX 2, ARMADA 1

SHERBROOKE, QUE. — Joshua Roy and Maxime Côté scored a goal apiece as Sherbrooke (18-5-1-1) squeezed past Blainville-Boisbriand (10-15-0-1) in a matchup between first and last in the Western Conference. Samuel St-Hilaire made 21 saves.

HUSKIES 5, SEA DOGS 2

SAINT JOHN, N.B. — Louis-Philippe Fontaine scored two goals to help lead Rouyn-Noranda (14-10-1-1) past Saint John (6-15-0-1). The Sea Dogs took a 2-1 edge 3:34 into the second period before the Huskies netted four unanswered goals, three of which came in the final frame.

SAGUENÉENS 3, VOLTIGEURS 2

DRUMMONDVILLE, QUE. — Marek Beaudoin scored the game winner 14:05 into the third period to lead Chicoutimi (13-13-0) to victory over Drummondville (12-12-0). Down 2-1, Tyler Peddle tied it for the Voltigeurs 4:48 before Beaudoin netted the winner.

OCÉANIC 4, TITAN 3 (SO)

RIMOUSKI, QUE. — Luka Verreault netted the shootout winner and Rimouski (12-13-1) topped Acadie-Bathurst (10-11-2-2). Jan Sprynar scored as the first shooter for the Oceanic after Rimouski came back from a 3-1 deficit in regulation.

ISLANDERS 4, EAGLES 3 (SO)

SYDNEY, N.S. — Jakub Brabenec scored the shootout winner as Charlottetown (11-12-2) defeated Cape Breton (8-12-2-1). Giovanni Morneau, who netted two goals in regulation, scored as the first shooter for the Islanders while the Eagles missed on both of their chances.
