NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series:  Season Opener

Sunday February 20, The 64th Daytona 500, Daytona FLA: 64^th Daytona 500, the kick start of the 2022 NASCAR Cup season: Austin Cindric started off his first full-time season in the NASCAR Cup Series with Team Penske perfectly- winning the Daytona 500. Cindric blocked teammate Ryan Blaney on the outside out of Turn 4 coming to the checkered flag. Blaney made contact with Cindric and hit the outside wall, handing the win to Cindric. Bubba Wallace squeaked by to finish second, followed by Chase Briscoe, Blaney and Aric Almirola to complete the top five. 3 big wrecks took out most of the field. Austin Cindric is the son of Penske Racing President and former RLR guest Tim Cindric. Canadian connection: Cindric won a NASCAR Truck race at CTMP in 2017. 

Canada’s Jacques Villeneuve, at the age of 50, the first former Formula One champion to enter the Great North American Race, started The Daytona 500 40^th– tail, ran in the high 20’s most of the race and finished 22^nd.
