Raceline Radio Weekend Wrap-Up, and Show Guest Schedule: Week of November 6, 2022

2022 is our 30th Anniversary Season on the air!                         

NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series: 

Last Race: Championship Playoff Final: Sunday November 6th: Phoenix Arizona: As close to a perfect stock car race as Joey Logano could make it! The Penske pilot started from the pole, led all but 125 of the 312 laps, and took the lead for good with 30 to go. Logano wins the season finale and his second career championship to go with his 2018 title. It was his 4th win of the season, second of the Playoff.   

The other Playoff contenders: Ross Chastain finished 3rd at Phoenix, Christopher Bell 10th and former champ Chase Elliott 29th after some heavy contact.

This is the first season Roger Penske has won both the NASCAR championship and the IndyCar title in the same season. Will Power winning it for the Captain on the IndyCar side. This is Ford’s first 2-time champion with Logano since David Pearson in 1968 and 1969!

The 2022 Cup season is now closed. 2023 opener: Sunday February 19th, The 65th Daytona 500.

Formula One World Driving Championship:  Idle

Next Grand Prix: Sunday November 13th: The Brazilian Grand Prix, Sao Paulo.

Last GP: Sunday October 30th: The Grand Prix of Mexico, Mexico City: Max Verstappen took off from the pole: gone! 14th win of the season for the champion easily to set a new record, losing the lead only through pit stops. An uneventful run.  15 seconds up on Lewis Hamilton in 2nd, home nation hero Sergio Perez 3rd.

The Canadians: Lance Stroll, penalized 3 grid spots for his crash with Alonso in Texas, finished Mexico in 15th. Nick Latifi finished up 18th.

Points into Brazil: Under Champion Verstappen: Sergio Perez leads Charles LeClerc by 5 points for 2nd in the standings. Under Constructors Champions Red Bull, Ferrari leads Mercedes by 40.

Next GP’s: Just two left: Brazil on November 13th and the season-closer in Abu Dhabi on November 20th.

NTT IndyCar Series: Season Closed

Penske’s Will Power wins the 2022 IndyCar championship to go with his 2014 title.

The Canadians: Devlin DeFrancesco finishes 23rd in final points. Dalton Kellett 25th.

2023 Season Opener: March 5th, St. Petersburg Florida. Toronto: July 16th.

IMSA Sports Cars: Season Closed

Canada’s Pfaff Motorsports with Campbell and Jaminet locked up the 2022 GTD-Pro championship. More Canadian titles as former RLR guest Roman DeAngelis in the “Heart of Racing” Aston Martin secured this year’s GTD crown. Parker Thompson won the 2022 Porsche Carrera Cup North America championship. 

2023 IMSA Opener: January 22nd: Rolex 24 at Daytona.  CTMP Toronto: July 7-9.

Canadian Rally Championship presented by Subaru:

Next Rally: November 25th-26th: Rally of The Tall Pines, Bancroft Ontario

Last Rally: October 23rd: Rallye Charlesvoix, La Malbaie Quebec:Overcoming gearbox woes, Jerome Mailloux and Philippe Poirier in their Subaru WRX STi win by 31 seconds over Jason Bailey and Shayne Peterson in their Ford Fiesta, to widen their points lead.  2-Wheel drive to Duddy and Toupin in their Nissan Sentra.

Next Rally: November 13th: Rally Japan season closer. Heading in: Kalle Rovenpara ( Toyota ) leads Ott Tanek ( Hyundai ) by 64 points.

Last Rally: October 23rd: penultimate rallly: The Rally Spain Cataluyna: Sebastien Ogier with his first win of the season to give Toyota the 2022 manufacturers’ title!
