2022 is our 30th Anniversary Season on the air!
Formula One World Driving Championship:
Last Grand Prix: Sunday October 9th: The Grand Prix of Japan, Suzuka: Like last year, Max Verstappen’s crowning as F-1 champion was very confusing, and with this one, we weren’t initially sure he’d won the title! With the race lasting just 28 laps, slightly more than half-way due to rain delay, even with the win, Verstappen’s 12th of the season, 32nd of his career, it might not have been enough! But a post-race 5 second penalty to Charles LeClerc for cutting a chicane secured Max enough points for his second-straight championship!
Also: The rules on reduced points only apply if a race is suspended and cannot be re-started. Japan was re-started, so Verstappen gets full points and he’s officially champion. Sergio Perez finished the Japanese GP 2nd, forcing LeClerc to make that chicane error, LeClerc scored 3rd.
The Canadians: Lance Stroll 12th-no points but Nick Latifi was 9th and in the points for the first time this season! These are the final GP’s for the likeable Montrealer. Latifi and Williams are done as season’s end.
Note: They will investigate why a vehicle recovery tractor was working on track in reduced visibility as the field formed behind the pace car after the Carlos Sainz crash early, with Pierre Gastly coming close to clobbering it just before they red-flagged everything! Let’s remember back in 2014, French driver Jules Bianchi was killed when he struck a similar vehicle on the same Suzuka track! Only race control can deploy vehicles on track during a race! They have some explaining to so. Gastly was slapped with a 20 second penalty for speeding as he was trying to catch up to the pack before the red when he almost banged into that errant tractor.
F-1 Points into Austin Texas on the 23rd: Under champ Verstappen, Perez and LeClerc are only 1 point apart for 2nd place in Driver’s. Red Bull’s Constructors lead on Ferrari is now 165.
Next GP: Sunday October 23rd: The U.S Grand Prix, COTA, Austin Texas.

More Canadian titles as former RLR guest Roman DeAngelis in the “Heart of Racing” Aston Martin secured this year’s GTD crown.
