NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series:

Last Race: Saturday night September 17thFinal dash in their playoff round of 16 under the lights at Bristol TN:  With Chase Elliott pursuing him relentlessly for the final 50 laps, Chris Buescher held on to win it, the 3rd race in a row taken by a non-playoff driver! That’s never happened before! Buescher’s win gave Roush-Fenway-Keselowski Racing their first win since 2017.

The unlucky quartet eliminated- not advancing to the round of 12: Kevin Harvick ( bad pit stop and a loose wheel ), Kyle Busch ( another blown motor, his 2nd in 3 races ) and Tyler Reddick and team mate Austin Dillon, both caught in a 12 car pile up on lap 277 ).

Those advancing to the Round of 12: Elliott, Logano, Chastain, Larson, Byron, Hamlin, Bell, Blaney, Briscoe, Bowman, Suarez and Cindric!  The Round of 12 opens on the 25th at Texas.

Next Race: Playoff Round of 12 Opener:  Sunday September 25th, Texas Motor Speedway

Formula One World Driving Championship:  Idle!

Next Grand Prix:  Sunday October 2nd: The Grand Prix of Singapore.

Last Race: Sunday September 11th: The Italian Grand Prix Monza: it finished behind the safety car, but make it 5 wins in a row for Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, his 11th win this season, fighting back to the front after an engine change grid penalty started him 7th. He was easily the fastest car all weekend regardless of how it ended. Home land hero Charles LeClerc was 2nd, his Ferrari just couldn’t match Max’s pace after the team gambled away his early lead off the pole with a 2-stop strategy. George Russell 3rd in the Mercedes completing the podium. The finish at Monza followed the rules.  Had there been enough laps, the back-markers would have been allowed to overtake the Safety Car and catch up to the back of the train. A re-start would have then occurred at the end of the following lap. So there!

ET: The Canadians:  Nick Latifi 15th.   Lance Stroll: a DNF with brake issues.

F-1 Points into Singapore: October 2nd:  Verstappen’s Driver’s lead on LeClerc is 116. If Max wins Singapore, he clinches his 2nd-straight title. In Constructors: Red Bull leads Ferrari by 139. The gap in the schedule created when they scrubbed Sochi Russia on the 25th with Russia warring against Ukraine.
