Back in 1986, Bobby Rahal won the very first Toronto Indy. 35 years later, his young 21-year old Danish driver, Christian Lundgaard wins Toronto from the pole with great fuel strategy! Lundgaard, the F-2 grad, won by a very wide 10 second gap over 2nd place finisher Alex Palou, who battled with a badly damaged front wing. Colton Herta was 4th, with 4-time winner Scott Dixon behind in 5th. Canada’s Devlin DeFrancesco was in the center of an 8-car wreck on the opening lap, but a brake issue parked him shortly after. Scored 23rd, a DNF.

Formula One World Driving Championship:
Last Grand Prix: Sunday July 9th, The British Grand Prix at Silverstone:
Make it six-straight wins for Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, capping off another easy race to victory lane! England’s Lando Norris got the Silverstone homies going berserk when he overhauled Max at the start, but 5 laps later, Verstappen took over and led the rest of the way to notch his 8th win of the season. Norris hung in for 2nd, McLaren’s best finish this season, with fellow Brit Lewis Hamilton completing the podium for Mercedes in 3rd. Oscar Piastri wound up 4th in the other McLaren, with George Russell rounding out the top 5. Canada’s Lance Stroll with another rough one. Poor qualifying and a 5 second penalty for contact with Pierre Gasly pushed Stroll back to 14th and out of the points.
Points into Hungary: Verstappen has now opened up a 99-point lead over Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez, who recovered to 6th after a disastrous qualifying session. Can Red Bull run the table and take the entire schedule un-defeated? That is a distinct possibility! RB leads Mercedes by 208 in Constructors.
Next Grand Prix: Sunday July 23rd, The Hungarian Grand Prix, Budapest. Last Year’s winner: Max Verstappen.
