Pieces are starting to fall into place with the Montreal Impact’s roster as the opening day of the Major League Soccer season draws near.
On Monday, the Impact announced it had extended the loan deal for midfielder Andrés Romero for the 2014 campaign—the Argentine spent last season on loan with the Impact from Brazilian club Tombense.
Romero, 24, proved to be a useful player for Montreal in 2013, scoring two goals and adding a pair of assists in 30 league games, 20 as a starter. The Argentine also scored one goal in four games to help the Impact win the Canadian club championship.
Prior to joining Montreal, he played in the Brazilian first and second divisions, as well as in the Argentine first division with Argentinos Junior where he began his pro career in 2008.
Internationally, Romero played five games for Argentina’s under-20 side, including two starts during the Sudamericano U20 championships in 2009.
The Impact open the 204 MLS season with a pair of road games against FC Dallas (March 8) and the Houston Dynamo (March 15, before hosting the Seattle Sounders (March 22) in their home opener.
