LONDON — Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says France defender Sebastien Squillaci has joined the Premier League club from Sevilla.
Arsenal says the transfer has yet to be concluded, but Wenger expects Squillaci to train with the squad Friday.
Wenger said Thursday "we needed a centre back of quality and experience if possible, and at the right price – he was all of that."
Squillaci will be the second French defender to join Arsenal in the transfer window, after Laurent Koscielny signed for a reported 10 million pounds (C$16.4 million) from Lorient.
Arsenal released defenders William Gallas, Mikael Silvestre and Sol Campbell over the summer, and sold Philippe Senderos to Fulham.
