Arsenal sit at the top of the Premier League table through 11 games but will be without star centre-back Gabriel Magalhães for an extended period as they look to continue their strong run of form.
The Brazilian defender sustained a thigh injury while on international duty and will undergo further tests before returning to the pitch, the club announced Tuesday.
After limping off in Brazil’s friendly against Senegal at Emirates Stadium, he has returned to Arsenal for treatment with the hopes of being back in the starting lineup as soon as possible.
The timeline of his recovery remains unconfirmed, though the seriousness of the injury has raised concerns that he may be out for as long as two months.
Gabriel has played every minute of every league game so far this season for the English giants, recording two assists and seven clean sheets while only losing on one occasion.
The 27-year-old is not the only player sidelined for the Gunners, with captain Martin Odegaard, Noni Madueke, Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres all absent through injury.
Arsenal entered the international break following a 2-2 draw against Sunderland and will host North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur Sunday at Emirates Stadium.
