Less than two weeks before its first World Cup match and a day after announcing its roster, the Canadian men's national team might be dealing with another injured player.
Canada's Marcelo Flores, while playing for Tigres UANL of Mexico's Liga MX, appeared to injure his knee during Saturday's Concacaf Champions Cup final.
Flores, 22, took a non-contact fall in the 77th minute, and the winger was seen grabbing his right leg while on the ground before exiting the pitch in tears.
Back in February, FIFA approved a one-time switch from Mexico to Canada for Flores. He's played two games for the national team this year.
Canada revealed its 26-man roster for the World Cup this summer on Friday.
Several Canadian players, including Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies, are working their way back to full health ahead of the tournament.
Canada's first World Cup match is scheduled for June 12 against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Canada plays Uzbekistan in a friendly on Monday in Edmonton.
“We've had a pretty good idea of who our core group is for a while," coach Jesse Marsch said Friday. "The real X-factor in all these decisions was just trying to determine a month ago, two weeks ago, a week ago, last night, which players are going to be healthy, and who can we project to be really ready to be close to 100 per cent and in the form of their life going into this tournament. So, luckily, we're on track with a lot of guys.
“Will everyone be 100 per cent for the Bosnia match? No, that won't be the case, but we will have a really strong core that will be ready for that match, and we believe we can get stronger as the tournament goes on."
