Canadian soccer fans are dreaming of the World Cup and with a historic win over the United States Sunday, that dream is now one step closer to becoming a reality.
With a 2-0 result in the freezing Hamilton cold, Canada improved to 6-0-4 for 22 points to remain the only undefeated team in the Octagon. The top three teams in the table automatically advance to the 2022 Qatar World Cup. Canada could clinch a spot as soon as Wednesday on the road against El Salvador.
Sunday’s win marked Canada’s first victory over the United States in men’s World Cup qualifying in more than 40 years. The match also saw Cyle Larin move into sole possession of first place in the nation’s all-time goals list with his 23rd, which proved to be the winner.
