GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) -- Mo Salah came off the bench to score the fastest-ever hat trick in Champions League history as Liverpool routed Rangers 7-1 at Ibrox.
The Egyptian came on in the second half with his team leading 3-1 and proceeded to fire a stunning treble in just six minutes, 12 seconds to set a new benchmark in the competition.
Bafetimbi Gomis previously held the record from 2011 when he took eight minutes to complete his hat trick in a 7-1 win for Lyon against Dinamo Zagreb.
But Salah smashed that time with his stunning contribution, walking away with the match ball in Glasgow after putting the seal on a confidence-boosting win for Liverpool, which is in a strong position to advance to the round of 16.
It had been a night when Roberto Firmino had looked like being the hero _ scoring twice and setting up another for Darwin Nunez after Rangers had gone ahead in the first half.
But Salah ensured he would dominate the headlines with three wonderfully taken goals.
Jurgen Klopp had opted to make changes with his team in total control after Nunez made it 3-1 in the 66th minute.
Salah poked in a fourth for Liverpool in the 75th minute and then curled in another in the 80th. He completed his hat trick a minute after that with another clinical strike.
Another substitute, Harvey Elliott, finished the scoring in the 87th.
Barcelona 3, Inter Milan 3
BARCELONA, Spain (AP) -- Robert Lewandowski scored in stoppage time to keep Barcelona alive -- for the moment -- in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Lewandowski's last-gasp header helped the Catalan club salvage a 3-3 draw with Inter Milan after the visitors had taken a 3-2 lead with a goal from Robin Gosens in the 89th.
A loss would have meant elimination for Barcelona for a second consecutive season in the group stage.
But Xavi Hernandez's team remains in a difficult situation. Third-place Barcelona has four points, three behind Inter in the fight for second in Group C. Bayern Munich, which beat Viktoria Plzen 4-2 for its fourth victory in a row, has advanced with 12 points.
"It's disappointing," Barcelona captain Sergio Busquets said. "It is a difficult group but we had to do better after all the signings we made. It's not settled yet, but now it's very complicated as we don't depend on ourselves anymore."
The result leaves Inter in full control of its fate ahead of matches against last-place Plzen in Italy and then at Bayern Munich. Barcelona hosts Bayern before visiting Plzen.
"This Champions League has been cruel for us," Xavi said. "Now it's very difficult to advance. It's a shame."
It would be the first time since 1999 that the Catalan club fails to advance to the knockout stage in consecutive years, coinciding with the departure of Lionel Messi to Paris Saint-Germain two seasons ago.
Bayern Munich 4, Viktoria Plzen 2
PLZEN, Czech Republic (AP) -- Leon Goretzka scored twice as Bayern Munich clinched its spot in the Champions League knockout stage with a 4-2 win at Czech champion Viktoria Plzen on Wednesday.
Sadio Mane and Thomas Muller also scored as Bayern wrapped up the result in the first half to ensure it will finish among the top two teams in Group C due to Inter Milan's dramatic 3-3 draw at Barcelona in the other group game.
Bayern leads with 12 points, followed by Inter with 7, then Barcelona with 4, while Plze? is bottom with zero points after four games so far.
Many of the few traveling Bayern supporters missed their team's first goal due to a boycott of the first 12 minutes in protest against high ticket prices. Members of Club No. 12 and other Sudkurve Bayern fan groups issued a statement before the game saying 70 euros ($68) for the cheapest ticket is too much for the average supporter, and that they should be 20 euros ($19). They called on their own club to use its position "to campaign for fundamental changes in order to save football as we know and love it."
Meanwhile, the team keeps scoring. Bayern hammered Plzen 5-0 in Munich last week and wasted little time before starting in Pilsen.
Tottenham 3, Eintracht Frankfurt 2
LONDON (AP) -- Son Heung-min scored twice as Tottenham came from behind and then survived a late scare to beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-2 in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Harry Kane also scored to help Tottenham move atop Group D _ one point clear of both Marseille and Sporting Lisbon _ with two rounds remaining.
Frankfurt took a 14th minute lead after poor defending from Eric Dier saw the England international mis-control in his own box. Jesper Lindstrom pounced to steal possession and Daichi Kamada put the ball into an empty net.
Son equalized for the home team six minutes later -- slotting in after Kane's decisive pass.
Then it was Kane's turn to get on the score sheet after being fouled by Kristijan Jakic in the box. He duly converted in the 28th minute -- scoring his 21st goal in 28 Champions League appearances.
Spurs looked to have the game sealed nine minutes before halftime when Son struck his second.
The South Korean lashed an unstoppable first-time volley into the roof of the net after being picked out by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
He might have recorded a hat trick before the break but was twice denied by Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp.
The German team's hopes looked even bleaker just before the hour mark when it was reduced to 10 men. Tuta was sent off for two yellow card offenses in the space of three minutes for fouls on Son.
But if the home crowd expected Spurs to extend its lead, it didn't happen.
Instead, Faride Alidou headed home Mario Gotze's 87th minute corner to set up a nervy finish.
Napoli 4, Ajax 2
NAPLES, Italy (AP) -- The superlatives are running out for Napoli and forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
Napoli advanced to the last 16 of the Champions League with two matches to spare after another goal and an assist from Kvaratskhelia helped his team beat Ajax 4-2 on Wednesday.
The Italian club is atop both Serie A and its Champions League group and unbeaten in both competitions.
"We deserve to get through. I'm proud of the team and the fans, who really drove us forward," Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti said. "We saw the Champions League stars in the true sense of the word because at a certain point my head was spinning given the incredible atmosphere generated by our fans at the stadium.
"I'm lucky to coach a squad like this one. I have professional players here with technical quality. We have to keep championing the style of play that we've always had and the same mentality. Credit to the whole team on what's been a wonderful evening."
Napoli was in firm control and 2-0 up within 16 minutes thanks to goals from Hirving Lozano and Giacomo Raspadori. Davy Klaassen pulled one back at the start of the second half but Kvaratskhelia restored Napoli's cushion from the penalty spot.
Steven Bergwijn also converted a late penalty for Ajax before substitute Victor Osimhen sealed the result on his comeback.
Athletico Madrid 0, Club Brugge 0
MADRID (AP) -- No matter how, goalkeeper Simon Mignolet was going to make sure Club Brugge got the point it needed to advance to the last 16 of the Champions League for the first time in three decades.
Mignolet made save after save, including one with his face in the final minutes at the Metropolitano Stadium, as Club Brugge held Atletico Madrid to a 0-0 draw Wednesday to become only the second Belgian club to reach the round of 16 in the European competition.
"I'm glad I was able to play such a big role for my team again," said Mignolet, who is yet to concede in four Champions League games this season. "I wasn't really thinking about a clean sheet. It's a nice bonus, of course."
Among Mignolet's nine saves was a remarkable one with his face on a late close-range shot by Alvaro Morata.
"I just smashed all my body and was able to stop it with my head," the 34-year-old goalkeeper said. "The end justifies the means I guess."
Mignolet and his teammates celebrated wildly after the match as Club Brugge secured a spot in the round of 16 for the first time since that phase was introduced in 2003-04. In 1992-93, it reached the last eight, which at that time was called the group stage. Club Brugge also played in the final of the 1978 European Cup, losing to Liverpool.
FC Porto 3, Leverkusen 0
LEVERKUSEN, Germany (AP) -- Xabi Alonso's debut as a Champions League coach didn't go as planned.
Two goals for Mehdi Taremi from the penalty spot and superb goalkeeping from Diogo Costa lifted Porto to a 3-0 win at Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday, strengthening the Portuguese team's bid to qualify for the Champions League knockout stage and leaving Leverkusen last in Group B.
A Champions League winner as a player with Liverpool and Real Madrid, Alonso took over as Leverkusen coach last week, after Gerardo Seoane was fired following a 2-0 loss to Porto away. It's the first time that Alonso has been a first-team head coach after stints with youth and reserve teams in Spain.
Marseille 2, Sporting CP 0
LISBON, Portugal (AP) -- Two wins in two matches have given a much-needed boost to Marseille's chances of reaching the last 16 of the Champions League.
Marseille eased to a 2-0 victory at Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday after the Portuguese side had two players sent off.
Sporting also had a player sent off in last week's 4-1 loss to Marseille.
Marseille was bottom after two straight defeats but has now moved second, above Sporting on head-to-head record and a point behind Group D leader Tottenham after the English side beat Frankfurt 3-2.
It all went wrong for Sporting in the 19th when defender Ricardo Esgaio was sent off following two yellow cards in three minutes.
Esgaio's second yellow card also saw him concede a penalty for a foul on Amine Harit. Matteo Guendouzi had never taken a penalty before but he sent the ball in off the post to give Marseille the lead.
That was the first time Marseille had opened the scoring in a Champions League match since 2013.
Harit was also involved in Marseille's second goal, 10 minutes later, with a cross for Alexis Sanchez to tap in. The goal was given after a VAR check for a possible offside in the buildup.
