Canadian soccer players are in high demand these days.
Olivia Smith, 20, is headed from Liverpool to Arsenal in a women's record 1 million Euro transfer, The Guardian reported on Thursday.
The Whitby, Ont., native was voted Liverpool FC Women's 2024-25 Player of the Season in June. She finished tied for the team lead in goals with nine in 25 games in her debut season in England's Women's Super League after joining Liverpool from Portugal's Sporting CP last summer.
Smith now heads to reigning Women's Champions League winner Arsenal after helping Liverpool place seventh in the WSL.
In 18 senior-team appearances with Canada, Smith has three goals and three assists.
The previous high transfer for a women's soccer player came in January when Naomi Girma went from the San Diego Wave to Chelsea for $1.1 million US.
Canada's Jonathan David recently struck a free-transfer agreement worth 30 million Euros over five years to join Serie A's Juventus.
