Cristiano Ronaldo's return to Manchester United might be coming to an end already.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has told the Premier League club he wants to leave this summer, soccer insider Fabrizio Romano said Saturday.

Ronaldo, who rejoined United just last year, "wants to see more ambition," according to Romano.

United is apparently aware of Ronaldo's decision, but they remain "hopeful" the star player will stay.

Ronaldo originally joined United as a teenager in 2003, winning the FA Cup in his first season, and helped the club capture three consecutive Premier League titles and the Champions League. He transferred to Real Madrid in 2009 and joined Juventus in 2018.

The 37-year-old Ronaldo also has 189 caps with the Portugal men's national team.

Ronaldo scored twice in his return to Old Trafford during a 4-1 victory over Newcastle on Sept. 11, 2021.
