USC guard JuJu Watkins has joined the investment group for the NWSL expansion team, Boston Legacy FC, becoming the first NCAA athlete to directly invest in a professional women's sports team, the team announced Thursday.
The USC Trojans star joined a group of investors that includes Indiana Fever's Aliyah Boston, Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, Olympic gold medalist Aly Raisman and actress Elizabeth Banks.
"Juju's investment marks a groundbreaking moment for women's sports and the power of NIL," Boston Legacy owner Jennifer Epstein said in a team press release. "As the first college athlete to directly invest in a women's professional sports team, she's showing that today's student-athletes aren't just building their own brands — they're shaping the future of the game."
Watkins' first accolade with the Trojans came when she won the Big 10 regular season championship as a sophomore. In 2025, the Los Angeles native went on to win the Naismith College Player of the Year award, John R. Wooden Award and was named AP Player of the Year.
She will be sitting out for the 2025-26 collegiate season after suffering a torn ACL in last year's March Madness tournament.
Boston Legacy FC is set to play in their home opener on March 14, 2026, at Gillette Stadium.
