The Vancouver Whitecaps have signed defender Tristan Blackmon to a contract extension through 2023, with club options for 2024 and 2025, the team announced on Thursday.

The 25-year-old Blackmon started the first three Whitecaps matches of 2022 and helped Vancouver earn a clean sheet in Week 2 against New York City FC.

He came to Vancouver in a trade from Charlotte FC during the 2022 MLS expansion draft.

Prior to his time with the Whitecaps, Blackmon played four years with Los Angeles FC, making 79 appearances across all competitions and helping Los Angeles win the 2019 Supporters’ Shield.

He was originally the third-overall pick in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft, selected by LAFC.
