BASTIA, France — Bastia has decided not to punish Brandao after the striker headbutted Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Thiago Motta at the end of a French league match.

In a statement Monday, Bastia says it will leave any decision up to the sporting authorities but adds it "reserves the right to take further action in the matter."

After Bastia’s 2-0 loss to PSG, Brandao waited for Thiago Motta in the tunnel and headbutted the Italy international, leaving him with a broken nose.

Bastia says it "condemns without any ambiguity the gesture of its forward" but adds that it "also deplores the equally unacceptable behaviour of certain players who don’t stop insulting and provoking their opponents."

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi called for Brandao to be banned for life.
