FELCSUT, Hungary — FIFA president Sepp Blatter says that the world football body is establishing a new award named after Hungarian legend Ferenc Puskas which will be given to the player who scores "the most beautiful goal" of the year.
Blatter says the annual award will be presented for the first time during the FIFA world player of the year gala on Dec. 21 in Switzerland.
Blatter made the announcement Tuesday at the Ferenc Puskas Football Academy in Felcsut, a town about 40 kilometres southwest of Budapest.
Puskas, who died in November 2006, led Hungary to the 1954 World Cup final. He also played for Real Madrid.
