MANCHESTER, England — A British court has ordered Blackburn to pay 2.25 million pounds ($3.5 million) in compensation to former manager Henning Berg.
The former Blackburn defender’s spell in charge of the second-tier club was brought to an end 57 days into a three-year deal in December, following a run of one win in 10 matches.
Blackburn argued that managing director Derek Shaw acted without authority from owner Venky’s — an Indian poultry firm — in granting Berg a contract.
But at the High Court in Manchester, judge Mark Pelling said Monday that Shaw had been “authorized to negotiate and conclude an employment contract.”
