LARNACA, Cyprus — Pauline Hamill and Natalie Ross scored to lead Scotland 2-0 over Canada’s women’s soccer team in an international friendly Monday.

The game was one of five the Canadian women are playing in Europe this month as part of the team’s tuneup for next month’s CONCACAF Olympic qualifying tournament.

Hamill scored the game’s opening goal in the 49th minute. Ross padded Scotland’s lead in the 80th minute.

Monday’s friendly was during a break in action at the Cyprus Cup tournament. The Canadians opened the tournament with a 2-1 win over Russia, then defeated Japan 3-0 on Friday.

They play a team from the tournament’s other group on Wednesday, then play France in a friendly on Friday.

Canada needs to finish top-two in the six-team Olympic qualifying tournament, April 2-12 in Mexico, to earn a berth in the Beijing Olympics.
