Canada’s Alphonso Davies named to Bayern’s Champions League roster

James Sharman, Danny Dichio and Craig Forrest discuss Alphonzo Davies making his debut in the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich.

Canadian teenager Alphonso Davies could make his UEFA Champions League debut later this month.

Davies, 18, has been added to Bayern Munich’s updated squad for the German club’s upcoming Round of 16 series against Premier League side Liverpool.

Davies and 17-year-old forward Joshua Zirkzee were added to Bayern’s roster list for the Champions League, replacing Sandro Wagner (who was recently sold to Chinese club Tianjin Teda), and Franck Evina (sent on loan to Holstein Kiel in Germany’s second division).

The first leg of the Bayern-Liverpool tie is scheduled for Feb. 19 at Anfield, with the return match slated for the Allianz Arena on March 13.

Signed by Bayern from the Vancouver Whitecaps last summer, Davies has made two Bundesliga appearances (both as a substitute) for the Bavarian since officially joining the team in January.

Bayern’s next Bundesliga match is Saturday at home to Schalke. On Wednesday, Bayern faces Hertha Berlin in the Round of 16 in the German Cup.
