Canada’s Carmelina Moscato joins Mexico’s Tigres as technical director

Mexican club Tigres Femenil has appointed former Canadian women’s national team player Carmelina Moscato as their new technical director.

The Mississauga, Ont. native becomes the first woman and first foreigner to hold the title in the club’s history. Based in Monterrey, Mexico, Tigres are four-time league champions in the Mexican first division.

“We are very pleased to welcome Carmelina to Tigres Femenil, we are sure that her extensive experience as a player for the Canadian national team, and the preparation she has had as technical director in Europe and in her native country, will bring many benefits to the team. because it complies 100 percent with the Tigre Profile”, said Tigres vice-president Antonio Sancho in a statement.

Moscato played for the Canadian national team from 2002 to 2015, totalling 94 caps and scoring two goals. Since her retirement from soccer, Moscato started her well-travelled coaching career as an assistant for the Canadian under-17 and under-20 national teams.

Moscato then served as the commissioner of the semi-professional League One Ontario women’s league from 2019 to 2021. She left her position to become the Director of Football at the Bahamas Football Association.

Since July 2021, Moscato had been head coach of Danish first division club FC Nordsjælland.

“I think (in Tigres Femenil) we have stars in the team, top players and a presence in the women’s soccer community. It is something very special and interesting,” Moscato said in a club statement.
