GHENT, Belgium — Canadian Jonathan David, who had a hat trick in Belgian league play on the weekend, scored again Thursday in KAA Gent’s 1-1 draw with AS Roma in Europa League action.

The goal came in the 25th minute off a fine cross from Roman Bezus that found David between two defenders just outside the six-yard box. The 20-year-old, born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and raised in Ottawa, angled the ball in with his left foot at KAA Gent Stadium.

It was his 23rd goal of the season and third in seven Europa League matches. David leads the Jupiter Pro League in scoring with 18 goals this season.

Justin Kluivert scored four minutes later for Roma and the round-of-32 second-leg game ended at 1-1, halting Gent’s cup run as Roma advanced 2-1 on aggregate.

David, who has 11 goals in 12 appearances for Canada, scored a hat trick against Sint-Truidense VV in Belgian league play Sunday.
