TORONTO — Canadian striker Iain Hume has signed for Spanish second division side SD Ponferradina.
Hume, who announced his move via social media, said his contract runs through the end of the season.
"Playing in Spain has always been something I’ve dreamt about doing, and when the chance came up I had little hesitation!" he said on Instagram. "I don’t speak the language, but I’ve been eager to learn it for a few years! Now I have no excuse not to! I can’t wait to get started!"
Ponferradina currently stands 16th in Spain’s second division.
The 32-year-old Hume previously played for Kerala Blasters FC in India and Tranmere Rovers, Fleetwood Town, Doncaster Rovers, Preston North End and Leicester City in England.
Born in Edinburgh to Scottish parents, Hume came to Canada when he was one. Growing up in Brampton, Ont., he made his debut for Tranmere in April 2000 when he was just 16.
Hume has won 42 caps for Canada.
