Canadian striker Tosaint Ricketts is on the move again, transferring from Sandnes Ulf in Norway’s topflight to Turkish club Bucaspor.
Details of the transfer to were confirmed by Ricketts’ agent to sportsnet.ca on Friday.
A 26-year-old native of Edmonton, Ricketts left Spain earlier this week where he was training with Canada’s national team to head to Turkey in order to undergo a medical examination and complete the deal with Bucaspor.
Ricketts will join fellow Canadian Tam Nsaliwa at Bucaspor, who currently competes in Turkey’s second division.
With five goals in 24 appearances (10 as a starter for Canada), Ricketts made his debut for the national team in 2011 in an international friendly versus Greece. Before that he came through Canada’s youth system, and represented his country at the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup staged on home soil.
Since making his pro debut in 2009 with Finnish team MyPa, Ricketts spent time at Politehnica Timișoara in Romania and Vålerenga in Norway before landing at Sandnes Ulf.
His time in Romania was not easy as he went a four-month period without getting paid. He left the team believing his contract was annulled due to his salary situation, and went on trial with Dynamo Dresden. He was about to sign with the German club, but the Romanian Football Federation ruled his contract with Timisoara was still valid.
Ricketts eventually went to FIFA for help, and signed with Valerenga while awaiting a decision from soccer’s world governing body. He was finally granted a temporary International Transfer Certificate that allowed him to play for Valerenga.
