MADRID, Spain — Celta Vigo joined second-division champion Deportivo Coruna in winning promotion to Spain’s topflight league on Sunday.

Celta will return to the first division after five years following a 0-0 draw against Cordoba on Sunday. The Galician club finished the season second to earn one of the two automatic spots.

Alcorcon, which eliminated Real Madrid from the Copa del Rey three years ago, faces Hercules in the promotion playoff and has a chance of playing in the top flight only a season after earning promotion to the second division.

Alcorcon or Hercules will play the winner of the other playoff between Cordoba and Valladolid.

Villarreal, Racing Santander and Sporting Gijon will all play in the second division next season.
