MOSCOW — Spartak Moscow has fired coach Unai Emery following a 5-1 defeat in the Russian league to Dinamo Moscow on Sunday.
The decision was announced by Spartak general manager Valeri Karpoin at the post-match press conference.
It was Spartak’s sixth loss of the season and a second consecutive heavy defeat.
Spartak was eliminated from the Champions League after a 3-0 loss to Barcelona at home on Tuesday.
Spatak is ten points behind league leader CSKA Moscow after 17 games this season.
Spartak hired Emery, who previously coached Valencia, to a two-year contract in June.
Spartak owner Leonid Fedun said he "wouldn’t like to give immediate comments."
