LONDON — Chelsea defender Alex has signed a new four-year contract with the Premier League club as he resumed training following a groin operation.

The 27-year-old Brazilian said Tuesday: “I am very happy to start again to train and feel no pain, and to sign for four more years. It was easy to decide to sign and now I hope to get back to playing well.”

The announcement came a day after Chelsea said Salomon Kalou signed a new three-year deal.
