LONDON — Manchester United reported that a Chelsea fan hurled a bottle at the bus taking its players away from Stamford Bridge after Sunday’s 1-1 draw, cracking the windscreen.
Chelsea issued a statement saying the club would investigate the incident and take action against any fans who were guilty.
"It appears to be an isolated incident but we have launched a full investigation in conjunction with local authorities," Chelsea’s statement said. "We do not condone violence in any shape or form. If, as a result of our investigations, we find that any Chelsea supporters were involved we will take appropriate action against those individuals."
It is the second time that a Chelsea-United game at Stamford Bridge has involved post-game violence although last season’s match in April involved players and officials on the field.
United defender Patrice Evra and Chelsea groundsman Sam Bethell both face misconduct charges following that incident, which happened when United players were leaving the field after Chelsea’s 2-1 victory and clashed with Blues staff.
