BASEL, Switzerland — Danilo’s late goal from the penalty spot secured a 1-1 draw for Porto at Basel on Wednesday as the two clubs fought for a berth in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The Brazilian defender equalized with 11 minutes to play in the last 16, first leg match after a handball decision against Walter Samuel.

Derlis Gonzalez put the Swiss team ahead in the 11th, connecting with a long pass from Fabian Frei and beating two defenders before slotting the ball past Fabiano. In recent seasons Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Liverpool have all lost at St. Jakob-Park.
