MADRID, Spain — Ruben de la Red returned to Real Madrid on Tuesday, nearly a year after the Spanish champion sent him to Getafe.
De la Red, 23, made the crosstown move back to Real Madrid after an impressive season capped with a goal against Greece during Spain’s European Championship run last month.
The versatile de la Red, who graduated from Real Madrid’s youth system, scored two goals in 31 league games for Getafe, where played at centre back, and helped them return to the Copa del Rey final and reach the UEFA Cup quarter-finals.
His play earned a first call-up for the national team in March with his debut coming in a 2-1 victory against Peru in May. He has three caps.
