NEW YORK — Canadian international Dwayne De Rosario has been named Major League Soccer’s player of the month for August.
The D.C. United midfielder scored three goals and added two assists last month in helping his club get into the MLS playoff picture.
Acquired in a trade with the New York Red Bulls in June, the 11-year veteran has scored six goals in eight appearances with United.
De Rosario played in two matches for Toronto FC this season prior to being traded to New York.
The 33-year-old scored all three goals in United’s 3-3 with Toronto FC on Aug. 6.
De Rosario is currently with the Canadian national team ahead of Friday’s World Cup qualifier with St. Lucia in Toronto.
