MADRID — Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa could miss the first leg of the Europa League semifinal against Arsenal because of an injury to his left hamstring.

Atletico says the injury was diagnosed after exams on Friday, a day after Costa got injured in the second leg of the Europa League quarterfinals at Sporting Lisbon.

Costa was substituted in the 52nd minute in a 1-0 defeat. Atletico advanced 2-1 on aggregate.

The Spanish club did not say how long Costa is expected to be out for. Local media said it would take about two weeks for him to return to action, making him doubtful for the first leg against Arsenal in London on April 26.

The return match is May 3 in Madrid.
