ACCRA, Ghana — Ivory Coast’s Didier Drogba has been selected Africa’s soccer player of the year for the second time.

The Chelsea forward received the 2009 award on Thursday from the African Football Confederation, beating out Ghana’s Michael Essien, who also plays for Chelsea, and Cameroon’s Samuel Eto’o, who plays for Inter Milan.

Drogba also won the award in 2006.
