Feyenoord keeps Dutch league lead

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) — Feyenoord stayed top of the Dutch league after a 1-0 win over Excelsior Rotterdam on Saturday.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst scored the only goal of the Rotterdam derby in the 77th.

Feyenoord has 21 points, PSV has 20 and Ajax has 18.

Danny Koevemans scored two goals to help defending champion PSV Eindhoven beat VVV-Venlo 3-1. Otman Bakkal had a goal in the 24th for PSV, and Koevermans scored in the 52nd and 77th. Samir El Gaaouiri scored in the 66th for VVV.

Ajax drew 0-0 against NEC Nijmegen on interim coach Adrie Koster’s debut. Rutger Worm missed a penalty kick in the 14th for NEC, which has yet to win at Ajax in the league.

Koster, the former youth academy head for Ajax, was brought in as a temporary replacement for Henk ten Cate, who joined Chelsea as coach Avram Grant’s assistant on Oct. 10.

Lasse Schon, Berry Powel and Leon Hese each scored Friday before Donny De Groot added a goal in the 86th minute in De Graafschap’s 4-0 win over Sparta Rotterdam.

On Sunday, it’s: AZ Alkmaar vs. SC Heerenveen; Willem II vs. NAC Breda; Roda JC vs. FC Utrecht; and FC Groningen vs. FC Twente.
