LONDON — Defender Michael Dawson looks set to miss England’s trip to the European Championship after injuring his ankle playing for Tottenham in the FA Cup.
Tottenham said Thursday that the 28-year-old Dawson had ruptured a ligament in his right ankle and will be out of action for between 10 and 12 weeks.
That means Dawson will miss Spurs’ final Premier League fixture against Fulham on May 13. If he heals quickly, he could make the May 17 FA Cup final if Tottenham wins through the next two rounds.
Dawson was a replacement for Rio Ferdinand at the 2010 World Cup and would have been in contention for the June 8-July 1 European Championship but is unlikely to be selected after such a long absence, even if he is fit.
Ferdinand has struggled with injury this season and captain John Terry’s participation is in doubt because of his fitness and the allegation that he racially abused an opponent.
Dawson limped out of Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Stevenage.
