BIRMINGHAM, England — Newcastle ended a four-match losing streak by rallying to draw Birmingham 1-1 in the English Premier League on Monday.

However, Kevin Keegan still hasn’t notched his first win since returning as Magpies manager in January — eight games ago.

James McFadden put Birmingham ahead in the 33rd minute after taking a cross from David Murphy and evading the challenge of Newcastle defender Abdoulaye Faye to score.

Michael Owen levelled in the 56th, putting in the rebound after Obafemi Martins’ original shot was pushed away by Birmingham goalkeeper Maik Taylor.

Keegan named an attacking starting lineup, with strikers Mark Viduka and Martins handed their first starts under Keegan, alongside Owen, who was watched by England manager Fabio Capello.

Both clubs are still struggling — Newcastle is in 14th place with 29 points, with Birmingham two places and two points behind. Birmingham is only two points from the relegation zone.
