LIVERPOOL, England — Everton rewarded Roberto Martinez for an impressive first season as manager with a new five-year contract on Thursday.
Martinez, who took over from David Moyes a year ago on a four-year deal, led Everton to fifth in the English Premier League with a record points tally. Everton will play in Europe next season for the first time since 2010, in the Europa League.
The 40-year-old Martinez began managing at Swansea, then Wigan, where he won the FA Cup last year. He’s tied to Everton until 2019.
