The Ottawa Fury announced on Monday the acquisition of ex-Liverpool midfielder and former Real Madrid youth product Gerardo Bruna. He will officially join the North American Soccer League team on July 1.

“Gerardo is a wonderfully talented footballer,” coach Paul Dalglish said in a news release.

“He is a player we need to feed the ball as often as we can as he has the ability to make things happen for us. Together we must work hard to make sure Gerardo fulfills his huge potential.”

The Argentinean joined the Real Madrid youth ranks when he was 11 years old. He spent five years with the club before moving to Liverpool in 2007. He’s since played for five different clubs in England and Spain.

Bruna also represented Spain’s and Argentina’s youth national teams. He was a member of the Spanish squad at the 2008 U-17 European Championships.

“After I spoke to Paul and learned of the club’s interest in me coming to Ottawa I didn’t hesitate to take the opportunity,” Bruna said. “To move to such a lovely country and into a league that has so much potential to grow is very exciting.”

Following the Bruna deal, the Fury now have 18 players under contract.
