HAMILTON — CPL champion Forge FC has signed Belgian youth international midfielder Paolo Sabak.

The 21-year-old comes from Dutch club NEC Nijmegen, making 30 appearances since joining the team in 2018.

Sabak developed in KRC Genk’s academy. The native of Mechelen graduated to the Belgian side’s first team when he was 17, alongside the likes of current Toronto FC star Alejandro Pozuelo and Nigerian international Wilfred Ndidi.

His time at KRC Genk overlapped with that of current Forge FC assistant coach Peter Reynders and defender Daniel Krutzen.

Sabak made 22 appearances for his country at the youth level, from under-15 to under-19.

"In Paolo, we are bringing in a young and talented player with a tremendous upside," Forge FC head coach and technical director Bobby Smyrniotis said in a statement. "He comes to us with professional experience in both Belgium and the Netherlands and with a quality education coming through one of the world’s top youth academies."
