MONTREAL — Claire Lavogez scored twice including once on a penalty as France rolled over Costa Rica 5-1 in both team’s opening game at the Under-20 Women’s World Cup on Wednesday.

Lavogez sent France ahead by one just seven minutes into the game on a penalty before scoring again in the 38th minute.

Faustine Robert and Ouleymata Sarr also scored for France, which led 4-0 at halftime and benefited in the 22nd minute by Costa Rica’s Fabiola Villalobos scoring in her own net.

Michelle Montero scored in injury time to give Costa Rica its only goal.

MONCTON, N.B. — Mexico and Nigeria each scored in the first half en route to a draw.

Fabiola Ibarra’s goal in the 28th minute briefly put Mexico ahead until Nigeria’s Osarenoma Igbinovia replied in the 42nd minute.
