Fredy Montero’s tenure in Vancouver is over after one year.

The Whitecaps confirmed Wednesday that Montero, who spent last season on loan in Vancouver from Chinese team Tianjin TEDA, has left the MLS outfit and signed with Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon.

The 30-year-old Colombian forward originally joined the Chinese Super League side from Sporting in 2016.

Montero finished the 2017 MLS season with 14 goals for the Whitecaps in the regular season and playoffs.

Vancouver was looking to keep the Colombian, but his transfer fee from Tianjin proved to be too high. The opened the door to Sporting to make a move and bring him back to Portugal.
