MADRID — Forward Pablo Sarabia scored one goal and set up another to help Getafe beat Espanyol 2-1 in the Spanish league on Friday.

Getafe outplayed the visitors throughout most of a third straight home win under new coach Quique Sanchez Flores as it rose into a provisional 11th place.

Sarabia sprinted forward to volley home Alexis Ruano’s cross for the 33rd-minute opener at Alfonso Perez Coliseum. He then skillfully dribbled by centre back Hector Moreno before passing for Alvaro Vazquez to fire in the home side’s second in the 57th.

Espanyol, which was missing regular starters Sergio Garcia and Victor Sanchez due to suspension, reacted late, with substitute Anaitz Arbilla scored from long range in the 89th.

Defeat leaves Espanyol in eighth place.
