SINSHEIM, Germany — Hoffenheim says attacking midfielder Roberto Firmino has been ruled out for the rest of the season after tearing ligaments in his right ankle.

The Bundesliga club says the 20-year-old Brazilian will miss around eight weeks before resuming training ahead of next season.

The midfielder was injured in Hoffenheim’s 0-0 draw at Freiburg on Sunday.

Hoffenheim coach Markus Babbel says, "initially, we feared something worse."

Hoffenheim is ninth in the Bundesliga with three games remaining.
