The Montreal Impact announced on Thursday that forward Jimmy Briand won’t be joining the team as originally planned.

Guingamp announced the transfer on Sunday. The Impact eventually revealed that the deal would be made official during the week.

“French striker Jimmy Briand will not join the Montreal Impact as it was originally planned,” the Impact said in a press release. “Briand did not want to sign the MLS contract according to the terms negotiated and accepted by himself and his agent. Important additional requests by the Briand side at the last minute made the signing fall through. The Impact now directs its efforts towards other players to continue to improve the squad before the end of the international transfer window. A new signing should be announced in the coming days.”

Briand would’ve provided an instant offensive boost for the Impact, who have struggled for goals from their other strikers. Matteo Mancosu and Anthony Jackson-Hamel have combined to score just four goals this season, while Briand had 11 goals for Guingamp last season as both a winger and No. 9.

The Impact are currently in fifth place with 28 points in the Eastern Conference.
