MONTREAL — Justin Mapp will be back with the Montreal Impact for the 2013 season after all.
The Impact agreed to a contract for the 2013 season on Wednesday with the 28-year-old American, who was left exposed for last week’s re-entry draft but opted out of the draft in order to negotiate a new deal.
Financial terms were not released, although it is likely for less than the US$210,000 he earned last season, which was third-highest on the club behind striker Marco Di Vaio and captain Davy Arnaud.
Mapp, who mostly played on the left wing, had two goals and five assists in 27 games, starting 27 matches and playing 1,641 minutes.
"I’m very excited to be back," Mapp said in a statement.
Sporting director Nick De Santis called Mapp "one of the most technical and gifted players on our team. We look forward to our technical staff continuing to work with Justin to help him find more consistency in his game, while helping him reach his fullest potential."
Mapp has played 248 MLS games with Montreal, D.C. United, Chicago and Philadelphia. He was named to the MLS Best 11 in 2006.
Montreal has 21 players under contract.
